Speaking of canned chili, Chile? For unexpected guests, an easy recipe: 

In a medium to large size pan over medium-hi heat, mix 
2 TBS olive oil
1 onion chopped
Chopped garlic (to taste)
1 green pepper chopped
Chopped chilis (to taste)
Cook till onions are translucent
Then add:
1 can chili
1 can cut-up tomatoes
1 can pork & beans
1 can kidney beans (drained)

Cook until juice is reduced (not runny) & serve - great w/tri-tip (or any
grilled/broiled meat), salad & crusty bread; tamales & Spanish rice;
grilled/broiled chicken; hamburgers & hot dogs
