Hey all,
For what I know of it, you are supposed to eat black-eyed peas and collard
greens on New Year's day. The peas represent the coins and the collards the
paper money that you introduce into your new year. Okay, so maybe it
doesn't make much sense. I found a "Cajun Magic" version of black-eyed peas
and sent it off to the parental units. I am pretty sure it is a Southern
thing, but my mom (never lived south of the Mason-Dixon until they moved to
HI) is the one who always upheld the tradition in our house.
For me, I am going to see if I can dig up a white bean salad recipe and
substitute black-eyed peas.
take care all,
Suz

P.S. Randy, there is a new market near me (used to be an A&P) that sells all
sorts of dried peppers in bulk! I think the chipotle price is $8/lb. All
sorts of other Hispanic goods as well. Drop me a note and I'll tell you
more.
