It would seem that opinions vary a great deal on the subject of
"extract"-based sauces. As someone who has tried a number of them, I
thought I'd let all of you know just exactly what I think. Heat ratings
are on a scale of 1 to 10, sorta :-)
Endorphin Rush (10.5):
One of the best tasting of the extract sauces quite sweet with
some tomato taste.
Dave's Total Insanity (10.5):
Very little chemical taste. less sweet than ER. Contains
Jalapenos and Red Chiles and has somewhat of a smoky taste. Could
be used as a Chipolte substitute.
Blair's After Death Sauce (11):
I don't have any of this one and for good reason. I've tried it
and it's the worst
tasting stuff ever to be used as a condiment.
Dave's Insanity Sauce (11):
Still tastes pretty bad ( but much better than the Blair's ).
About the only thing it's good for is to enhance the heat level
on food or a mild sauce.
Possible Side Effects (11.5):
Essentially an update of BADS; a little hotter and not quite as
gross tasting.
PYRO (14):
A capsicum based oil of extreme heat. Its use is primarily in
frying, as in making hot wings or something similar. Its taste is
sort of like margerine.
Pure Caps:
Have not tried this one. But my supplier has stated that she
could not determine any difference between it and PYRO.
Habanero 750 (17):
This one is an extract that comes from Habs and actually tastes
good.
Starts out quite hot, builds to an extreme level, then lingers
I have found that it can be used a hot sauce if you place a very
small drop on one end of a taco then eat quickly.
Ok, that's what I think. If you've been confused by all the choices,
maybe this will help. If you've had all of these, and don't at all agree
with me, then you can post your own opinion :-) Flame On!
