Okay, I know this is frustratingly out-of-season for some CHers in our group and way to local for most everybody else, but it's just one of those things I have to share. Having dug new herb beds for my wife as an Xmas present (of sorts) I went to a local herb nursery to stock it with plants. While I'm poking around, what do I find? A 4-5' tall chocolate hab in a 5 gallon pot. I know it's a chocolate hab because it's loaded with fruit. Well, it 's still too early here (central Texas) to set out chiles but how could I resist? Seeing as I was interested, one of the owners took me round to the one growing in the display bed. It had been done in by a frost but the remains were about 6' high and 5' across. CH gardeners in the Austin/Central Tex area might want to check out It's About Thyme (on Manchaca 2 mi. south of Slaughter). They had a couple huge habs left. They also had some others interestingly labelled Peruvian Rocoya (their spelling, not mine) and Venezualan Red. The fellow there said his sister travels all over the world and sends him back seeds, so they may have some interesting varieties from time to time. David Cook
