This would probably help beat the frost but rocottos don't seem to pollinate well during the hot Midwest summers. I remember others saying that they like the shade and cooler weather but I had my plants in the shade last year and they never set a single chile. I might try to start a plant or two earlier this winter but my past experience is they are very difficult to get to set chiles in the Midwest.
