Metropolitan Council Chairman Ted Mondale said the region’s waste-water
treatment network now benefits from backup power systems purchased as
part of the Y2K upgrades, meaning the network could survive temporary
power outages.

``People can go home tonight and flush with impunity,’’ Mondale said.

 ``That’s a lot of relief for all of us,’’ Gov. Jesse Ventura added.
