Here's the best I have and I have no written documentation, so I
guess JBF:-) my mouthpiece would say that it is hearsay:-)
When I last spoke with Frank Garcia of GBS, he told me that his
contracts with Shepherds Garden Seeds and NK carried over
through
2000 because they were automatically renewed.
Shepherds Garden has the mail order and internet rights to Red
Savina and Francisca.
NK has the retail display rights. In 1999 they also sold through
WalMart under the Better Homes and Garden label, but only west
of the Mississippi. Anolther seed company (Lily Miller?) had the
same label east of the Mississippi. (Divide and Conquer)!
When I visited NK seeds in Chattanooga last year they showed me
several retail display packages which include different seed varities
for different ethnic and regional areas.
Their retail display seeds are packaged in stand up sections which
contain many varieties.
In my personal experience, NK seed displays which contain Red
Savina Habanero are only being sold in markets which rely on
Hispanic customers.
This kind of is nonsensical because several retailers that I know
say that most Hispanic customers won't purchase Habaneros,
including Red Savina, because the fruits are too hot. Go figure!!!
Byron,
Your seed distributor may not be offered the Red Savina because
you and he are not in the NK Red Savina demographics.
You may want to order your seeds from Shepherds Garden Seeds.
