I double that on, A short time ago on 20/20 Stossel was bashing the Organic
Growers.
The only real issue he had on his agenda was e-coli, from using freash
manure on your crops.
On another board from a microbiologist I have learned that if manure is left
on the soil surface and the ambient temps remain in the 80 to 110F range,
then e-coli can live for about 120 days.
If temps go above or below then the life of the e-coli is shortened. No
data tables available.
If frozen or heated above it will kill most of them
~~Heating manure is that aka Hot Sh-t?~~

I am speaking of the deadly strain of e-coli, If I must dig up the tech
term I will.

Best with your manure is to compost it for a year, Allow the sawdust to
suck up the nitrogen from the urea, and weed seeds a chance to die.And allow
the straw or hay also a chance to rot down.
