I find this really exciting. In the first abstract science is trying to
make peppers resistant to Phytophthora root rot using the genes already
found in peppers - that sounds like a marvelous benefit to pepper growers
all over the world. The second abstract is just the beginning of mapping
Capsicum, soon as more and more genes are found we can start to understand
what goes on inside our pepper plants. The third link is about the
molecular dissection of capsaicin biosynthesis, looks like the Koreans are
going to have the hottest peppers in the world if we don't start cloning
peppers ourselves.

Somebody must think there is economic incentive to fund these projects. I
think eventually people will see that frankenfruits are not going to turn
us into mutants, just like microwaves haven't fried to many peoples brains.

So guys, it looks like the gene splicers are loose in the chile patch.
