Twas Writ: >> Everyone I know that caught it was sick for at least 2 weeks. >> When I caught it I upped my intake of habs and hab sauce >> and I was over it in 3 days... coincidence? I think not > >1) I go out to get the paper barefoot the first time it snows. >2) I don't bundle up as soon as the temp drops below 50 F. > (That's around 10 for you, Doug). These 2 things help my >body get used to the fact that it is getting colder, and (I believe) >help ramp up the old immune system. >3) I don't get a flu shot. These are prepared way in advance >of the flu season and are a "best guess" at which one strain, >of the many out there, will hit big. i bundle up like the wimpy displaced redneck dog that i be...and i merely stick my foot (literally) out the door to get the paper...i have even been known to wear union suits (long johns) in the kitchen (commercial) until april...and this was in mississippi...methinks i may wear them year-round here in Ida-ho...also got a flu shot and various other shots since my place of employ gave 'em to me for free...and considering i'm now working in an institutional kitchen, meaning a hospital (going back to school in fall, so the job jives with my plans quite well...), well, i figure i needed as much help as possible to *not* get sick considering the environment i now frequent...methinks it was prudent thinking (okay, hopes...)... i also routinely ingest vit C, vit E, vit B-complex, zinc, proanthocyanidin (pure grape seed extract plus some other goodies), astragalus, garlic, and cycle on/off calcium and iron, as well as DHEA, although i typically prefer getting my calcium primarily from milk, and get iron from molasses (a sweet way to supplement one's diet <g>...'tis wunnerful in coffee, btw), and may simply be wasting my cash-ola on the DHEA...i also consume about 2x-daily green tea and ginseng tea, cycle on/off decaf products (as much as possible...chocolate is a weakness), and drink a gallon+ water daily...obviously, i no longer drink and quit tobacco products as well a year+ ago (addicted to giving up addictions? hmm...)...i should add/note that i do this based on *my* belief that this does one (me) good...i've read much to the contrary on self-medicating/supplementing, mega-dosing, etc., but i assume responsibility for myself only...if i croak, so be it...and i will also mention that about 4 times a year or so, i cycle off *all* vitamins/mineral/supplements...nonetheless, i think my supplementation does me good, regardless of the psychological factor(s)...i have not had a cold, flu, etc. in years tho, so who knows... BUT (read: "to get on topic..."), i've been ingesting chiles since the dark ages/pre-sobriety, and while i consider chiles "food" ("...Of the Gods", to be exact) and not supplements or the like, i believe that chiles do indeed promote good health and well-being...well, i guess all (non-GM..ha hah...just *my* belief based on *my* "investigation" and distrust of corporate entities as well as the FDA...but i digress...) foods promote such, but, well, jeez, you knowz what i meanz...Chiles Be Good...packed w/vit C and other goodies, promotes the Pain is Pleasure Philosophy (PPP...w/in reason, o' course, which varies from individual to individual) that i oh-so-much believe is good for one's mental health... in short (ha!), a suggestion to all (whom do not already to so): ingest 3-4 ounces of salsa daily (or some other form of chile) for a month...be aware of your physical health, your mental health, i.e. occasionally ask yourself how you feel...sit down at the end of the 30 days and comment on such via a list/paragraph/etc. for you to ponder over, or possibly do your pondering in the form of an e-mail and let your brothers and sisters (that's us) know what you think, discovered, experienced...could be interesting, neh?...ain't scientific per se, but it beats having me or anyone else swear that chiles are good for one to ingest... experience is the only way to truth, ya know... peace, hendrix, and chiles.......
