[gardeners] Flowers, cut and otherwise

I'm not going to be putting in my usual veggie garden this year but
would like to plant low maintanence flowers in that plot. It's about
12' x 60'. I have a couple of poles that I'll plant with morning
glories. I''m going to have nicotiana alata "Fragrantissima" along
the back and will be tucking in heliotrope. That should give me
plenty of scent. Plans currently include planting zinnias and 5
color chard and nigella. Does anyone have any suggestions for
annuals that are easily grown from seed and will bloom over the
entire summer and fall?

I live where summers are hot (100's are common in August) in the day
and coolish (60's) at night; semi-desert climate with plenty of
irrigation water available, clay-loam soil, neutral pH (in that
area), full sun, significant drying winds. Low maintanence is
critical.

Thanks for your suggestions.
