[gardeners] corn, incredible or butterfruit?

Well, I finally got into my late season corn Saturday, and it was almost
too late. It's quite mature. I'm growing "Incredible" for the first time,
and although it's good, it's not as good as Butterfruit used to be. The
Incredible lives up to its name in terms of weirdness, though. Many stalks
had zero ears. Never had that happen before. And I had the worst
pollination I've ever had. Several ears only half filled, others edentate,
and still others just plain blanks. I've never had that happen before
either.

We used to grow Butterfruit Bicolor. Spectacularly great corn! Then the
quality began to slip, and we started trying other varieties. Even at its
worst, I think it was better corn than the Incredible. Has anyone here
grown the other Butterfruits? There's an early and a late that we've never
tried. I'm willing to skip the bicolor if we can get back to the fantastic
Butterfruit flavor. Parks has an exclusive on the Butterfruit. Just
checked their catalog, and the late version is also called "Illini Gold."
My early corn this year was Sugar Buns, and it was very good, although I
don't think as good as Butterfruit. Sob. Margaret
