Bill M, your message prompted me to go look at the 
thermometer at the front door -- I'm only 4 miles from 
Long Island Sound, 20 miles north of NYC, and the
temp at 9:00pm was 3 degrees, just like you! Don't know
what the wind factor is, but I don't hear it howling...  we
also are promised at least 6+ inches of snow starting on
Saturday night. That's great for my shoveling lunatic of
a husband, but very bad for your family with the drive north.

Do they ever delay school's reopening because of impassable
road conditions? 

I'm a big just-in-case'er: bring a big thermos of hot coffee and a
blanket for each person in the car, and it all will give you
confidence to sail on through!
