Had a great uncle who had a similar problem with beavers. They were cutting
down a stand of beautiful white birch beside the pond they built. He painted
the bottom 3 feet of each tree with a very sticky pine tar gunk. He saved
most of the trees. I guess the beavers spent too much time trying to get
their teeth unstuck. :-)
