Good morning, friends. This morning Vivian and I were awakened at 3 a.m. by a very unfamiliar sound: the sound of falling rain. This rain is the first that has fallen in LA since mid-April. We don't expect much this season, because we appear to have another La Nina condition, so every drop is welcome at this point. I can't wait for the sun to come out, so we can enjoy the dust washed off the plants, so that they can shine in the sun. What a difference to see all the dust washed off. I know this may sound silly to those of you who live in non-desert climates, but the beginning of the rainy season is often a cause of rejoicing in these parts, representing a genuine change of seasons. It was not a case for unalloyed joy, however, since our neighborhood was plunged into darkness, doubtless by some poor wretch who does not know how to drive in the rain, careening into a light pole:( Power was off for 4 hours. I wonder how the driver fared. Hope he/she is ok. Ron Van Nuys, CA
