[gardeners] Tuesday in the garden

Had a brisk night last night, mid-thirties for temps and fairly high
winds. Miz Anne got up this morning and decided to pick a head of
broccoli she felt was ready. Boy, was it ever, big as a ten-inch dinner
plate and just as crisp as anything. She broke off a few florets to put
in a salad she was taking to her Tuesday art group's annual holiday
luncheon but there's plenty left for dinner tonight along with some
chard and carrots. Think we'll probably go vegetarian tonight as all the
fresh fall veggies look so good.

Picked the last of the sweet kumquats today and ate them out of hand.
The slightly tart ones do need picking and I think I'll wait until
Friday and make them into a kumquat marmalade. Gotta make another batch
of lemon marmalade too, plumb out of that variety and only one jar of
grapefruit marmalade left. Good thing I like to make jams and jellies.

Gotta go work on some plumbing malfunctions, old houses tend to break
down regularly.
