We use 3 or 4 wood shingle's around the young plants. They let the light in some, and don't get as hot as the tin cans do........in our very sandy soil we have to be careful to keep them cool when young or they burn up. We have a friend who is a roofer and he lets us know when he is reshingling a house with wood shingle's and we go pickup what we will need for a year or so. Barb
