Earlier I was looking for a small wasp, I think my CA found it for me, There
is a family of Mason Wasp, of which the Mud Dauber is the largest.
They find "Just the Right Sized Holes" place an insect and an egg in the
hole and then covers the hole with mud. Or make holes in the mud.

The only one I have ever seen had a small cabbage looper.

Not much is known about them,
I am going to take some scrap lumber drill a bunch of 1/4 in holes 1/2 to
3/4 in deep and place several around the garden this year and see what
happens.
