Margaret, I seem to be in good company....  

Jimmie has the identical problem with getting up off the ground
or out of the tub. He has to use enormous will power first of all,
then he counts one, two , three, then he groans, makes a thrust,
and e-v-e-r so s-l-o-w-l-y winds upwards.  It usually works for him.
I cannot get up at all, no matter what, unless I can get to my knees,
grab on to the top of a 5-gallon pail or some furniture, and use my 
arm muscles to pull or push me up.  The pair of us are like dodos!
But he does fall down every day, and I don't, so far. I count my
blessings.
