[gardeners] How do you pronounce herb?

Okay, I need to know: what is the correct American pronunciation of 
"Herb"?  Is it "Herb" as in the man's nickname, or is it 'erb?  It makes a 
major difference in selection of indefinite articles.  Thanks, Margaret L
