Hi, Carolyn -- I believe that the Weather Channel showed us a map of the potential drought which went right up the east coast and encompassing some 300 miles inland all along the way. New Jersey, to a large extent, and the parts of New York which sit on the western side of the Hudson River I am told use well water, and they are in the biggest trouble. When we had that unbelievable year of no rain, which I think was 1985 but could have been 1980, it became fashionable to try to drill for water in every back yard. We were a lot younger then, and full of energy and dreams, so of course we tried as well. An impossible task in general for the uninitiated -- I am convinced that this calls for professionals with the right power tools. Some of our area's giant nurseries still have signs up which say, "We Use Well Water" -- not so many people realize just why those signs were put there .....
