My son-in-law in St.Louis has a 12 foot hemlock which was planted on a
berm in heavy clay soil with some humus mixed in, about 3 years ago. All
of a sudden, it is leaning forwards about at a 40 degree angle. So far he
has wrapped part of the trunk with fabric to prevent abrasion, , and now
is pulling upwards gently with 3 bungee cords attached to a stake.

Has anyone experience with this? Should he make a shovel-cut on the
low side?
