Hi Chuck, Thanks for your response. I went out early this morning to have a look at my yellow pear plant and, miracle of miracles, the lower branches of the plant had revived. Yesterday I had removed most of the suckers from the plant (the smallest in the garden at about 15 inches, which makes me think you're right about the tiny root ball). I am also thinking that the clouds here yesterday and this morning must have helped or the sun would certainly have finished off this plant. What a strange season. Unfortunately, the growing tip is still wilted, but I will check it later, and if the lower half is still doing well, I may just lop off the top half and see what comes. Of course, there is nothing at all scientific about my approach, and I may well lose the plant in the end. If the plant dies I will probably put something other than a tomato in that spot this year. I'll post the results. Pat Zone 7, Maryland
