The Chinese were the first to invent ketchup which was called ke-tsiap and which had pickled fish and spices (no tomatoes). In the 1870’s New England colonists mixed tomatoes into the sauce creating present day ketchup >>>>>Glad they decided to leave out the pickled fish!.
