Hi all, Well, I just picked my first tomato of the year, a container grown hybrid called Celebrity, and my oh my, now remember why I toiled for these things! (y potted plants are up on my roof deck and I have to schlep water up there most every day to water these babies) My wife, who hasn't had a homegrown tomato in years thought it was unbelievable. I can't wait for my heirlooms to set fruit! Good as it was, however, I wasn't sure if it was at it's peak ripeness. I just kind of gently pinched it and noticed it was just beginning to get soft. The sides of the 'mater 'gave' just a bit. Before I pick anymore, I'd like to hear how others determine when it's time to pick a tomato. Do you have scientific calculations? Star charts? Years of experience? Or just 'when it feels right' :^) Looking forward to reading how others pick 'em! Greg Park Santa Monica, Zone 9
