RoseMarie,

I asked my County Agent about your problem, He felt that you might 
have had some fruit cracking due to uneven moisture, then pythium
fungus entered the cracks.

If this is the case, try removing all cracked fruit and see what happens.
to the rest.

The only chemical listed is Ridomil, @ $116 per pint, makes 1,000 gal.
A little out of the square foot gardeners reach.
