I may have the info you are looking for re: the supplier of your
friend's hardy omato plants from California.
There is an excellentnursery in San Anselmo, California called "The
Natural Gardening Company", and the have excellent quality
seedlings. Specializing in tomatoes, they call themselves "Home of
Tomato Heaven", and have a web page at:

Since moving to Alaska, I've purchased seed from them and been very
satisfied. It's not cheap (1999 price was $1.99 per packet for all
varieties), but I've been very impressed with the germination rate and
quality of my plants. As an organic nursery, they don't use chemical
pesticides, fertilizers, or treated seed.
BTW, the mail order address for them is listed in Petaluma, but their
nursery is in San Anselmo. My seed packet lists the address as:
217 San Anselmo Avenue, San Anselmo, CA 94960.
