George,

   Check out Neomarica spp. The only one I'm familiar with is a showy
blue-flowered weed that's readily available in the greenhouses here (just
let on that you noticed it blooming), but I see Southern Perennials & Herbs
(http://www.s-p-h.com) has a yellow one as well and that there are maybe 15
species total, all sub/tropical.
