The only adverse effect I have noticed when feeding animals spicy food is a persistent licking of their mouth. A flood of saliva perhaps. So, hot chile sauce will not hurt your cat in the least and would probably be an effective method of keeping him out of the plant. Not only that but the cat will provide a good 20 minutes of entertainment while it licks it's mouth and sneezes. My two cents Steve >> We have five cats who like to bother us at meal time. Occasioally they get a little too close to our food so we grab them and smear some tabasco on their nose...talk about entertainment...they lick and shake and sneeze. Our Bassethound (Chile Pepper Houndini) on the other hand loves the stuff. I put hotsauce and/or ground peppers on stuff I want him to stay away from and he goes after itwith a vengance. He loves the hot stuff. I guess he's living up to his name. My fiance says he takes after me..."THATS MY BOY!" John
