What "crisper"???? When I got this fridge several years ago, the
first things to go were the "crisper" drawers. They waste some room in
the bottom of the fridge and are not good for anything but making mush
of some veggies. Most of my veggies never see the inside of a fridge
anyway. Tomato flavor is ruined by too cold temps.
I use baskets so the air can circulate around them and I have a "cooler"
in my pantry which is not as cold as the fridge. It was originally a
beer cooler (for a keg) that I bought at a swap meet for $25.00.
I drilled holes in the door and in the bottom (and there is a big tray
under the bottom) so air can circulate. It has a very small compressor
and uses very little electricity.
It keeps veggies at about 50 to 55 degrees, F. and they stay fresh and
do not wilt or lose flavor.
The peppers keep better at cooler temps so they live in the fridge.
I also chucked out the "meat keeper" which isn't. I need the shelf
space for all the sauces, condiments, etc. etc. both commercial and
homemade.
I also have (for emergencies) a Servel fridge in my shed that is
probably 50 years old. It runs on bottled gas. It was a big help after
the '94 quake when I had no power for severel days. I stored milk for
my neighbors kids in it.
