So I goes into the Italian deli today to get some cold cuts...and in the display case next to the broccoli rabe and pasta salad is a tray of big green olives speckled with little red flakes...hmmmmm...says I...wot's this? Those are our marinated olives says the nice Italian lady...we crush 'em a little and marinate them in olive oil, garlic and red peppers. Ok, says I, I'll take 'em. How many she says...All of 'em I says (wasn't all that big a tray). Oh, she says...be careful...those are hot! Pooh..took 'em home and ate 'em...all of 'em...weren't all that hot (considering I had 'em with some left over roast pork sandwiches slathered with Jim's Firey Habanero Sauce) but they had a nice little tingle. Spitting the pits at the catz was fun too. So I figure...crush some big green olives, dab of red wine vinegar, little olive oil, sprinkle of Italian seasoning, lotsa garlic..a few dried habs chopped up insteada them wimpy dried red peppers...maybe a nice gin & tonic on the side (it was 80 today!). Summer is coming.
