Hey Mark, Congrats on your first pod. My suggestion is to pick it and consume it in a "First Pod" ceremony (a ritual open to your interpretation). Any first blossoms/buds, if picked early, will stimulate the plant to higher yield later on, especially if the plants are still in seedling cells. As far as sunlight goes, the sun always dips further south as the seasons progresses so southern exposure is a good thing. Some varieties, Habaneros and Rocotos, like a bit of shade in the late afternoon. Good luck and good growing.
