In Thursday's Chile-Heads digest, Brent Thompson speaks of a condiment known as huacatay, popular in South America. He's right that parts of the plant are eaten, but the growing plant is also used as an herbicide and nematicide. It apparently also has anti-viral properties. I'd suggest eating sparingly of such an herb. It's not a friendly little houseplant. It grows to two meters, and seldom flowers in temperate zones. The leaves are dried and used to flavor soups, meat and vegetables, according to Richters Herb catalog. Margaret
