Someone asked about a "keychain" container for pepper flakes/powder. I use tiny Tupperware bowls for pills (ah, age) and pepper flakes, but have used an earplug container; they usually have a screw-on lid and a keychain attached. Reading your messages about peppers, plus the coming of the holidays, remind me of a Christmas party about 30 years ago. A friend at the party was sharing a drink he called a '3 times 9'; we drank them flaming. The story he told was of his father growing 27 (3X9) variety of peppers. He would each season stuff a jar with these peppers, cover them with EverClear (Grain alcohol), seal them up and wait a year. Then he would take an ounce or so of the alcohol and add it to a fifth of vodka. The resulting drink was most pleasant and seemed to me at the time to have a ginger (??, I'm no gourmet) flavor, along with a pleasant warmth, . Now I suspect, being much older and somewhat brighter, I would warm it with my hands and sip it for the flavor -- and not get lost and wind up in Rooshiaville, IN. I know that a Chile-Head would never need booze for a kick, not with peppers around, but is this kind of drink common? Unique? Dangerous? A myth? No, I never had the peppers (or the nerve) to make a batch. I know it will warm your cockles, heart or elsewhere. Warm regards, JC........Season's Greetings from Campbell Keep
