Billy Boy, I use Miracle Grow or Petters as recommended on label (amounts), but at 18-25 days instead of every 7-10 days, to much can cause the plants to have a lot of green growth and little or even no fruit (to much nitrogen). Use common sense, a little on small plants , a little more on bigger plants. Jalapenos can bring a lot of heavy fruit that cause the branches to brake if long and lanky and exposed to strong wind. They will not need much fertilizer if the soil is good and has a lot of organic material in it like compost. Once the plants have matured and showing their first full flush of flowers and starting to set fruit, cut back on the nitrogen and use a fertilizer like 2-10-18. This will help the plants with fruit production and keep the branches and roots strong. We also apply Epsom Salts at the rate of 1/4 cup to a 2 1/2 gallon sprinkler can; Fully wetting the plant and grown. This is done at first full flowering to help set fruit. Give the plants a second and sometimes a third dose at 30 and 60 days. After the plants have a lot of heavy fruit we do not use any more fertilizer, just keep the ground moist. We have a "growing tips" page at http://www.zyworld.com/snearman/Growing-Tips.htm with more info. Steve >It seems everyone is having great results with Miracle Gro, I only >fertilized them with Miracle Gro when I potted them the other day. How >often should I do this and at what strength levels? > >What do you recommend for a fertilizer, I can't seem to get much info on >the Epsom Salts method but people say that it can increase the size of >the fruit. Any suggestions or tips? Could I apply it now that I have >applied the Miracle Gro? ======================================================= Uncle Steve's HOT Stuff, Home of world's hottest Chiles http://www.zyworld.com/snearman/Uncle-Steve-Home.htm =======================================================
