I first started subscribing to CP in '91. I especially
loved the stories and recipes from their trips from
around the world in their search of el grande. It was
obvious the authors knew their stuff and the mag was
truly a labor of love. I even liked the ads, since back
then CH sauces and paraphenalia were hard to find.

I sent in a 3 year renewal in '97 - the very same time
they were sold. Now it seems like CP writes more for
the masses than for the niche CH audience. They feature
slick restaurant recipes, rather than down-home recipes
from small peasant villages, etc.

I don't necessarily hate it - if it helps convert a few
non-believers, then that's a plus. But I find myself
simply flipping thru it rather than devouring every word
on each page.

I have also had problems with my subscription - missed
issues, less than responsive help from the sub office,
etc. Some of it was around the time of sale, so I guess
I should chalk that up to the transition. But I still
never know issue to issue if that one will ever show up
at my door.

Sadly, the changes in the mag are great enough that I
will not be renewing when summer 2000 rolls around.
