>Hmmm...well, I'm stumped - I always thought "Mexican Oregeno" was a >nick-name for Cilantro...since I'm wrong 'bout this, what's the difference? > thanks, > Brent Mexican oregano, or "curly leaf oregano" is a different spice that either Cilantro or the type of oregano used in Italian cooking. Very different plants.........Mexican oregano's botanical name is Lipia graveolens. Mediterranean Oregano or Italian oregano has a botanical name of Origanum vulgare. You are better off not substituting anything, including the oregano (mediterranean oregano) sold by all the large spice companies and found in spice section of every grocery. The dish will not taste right! You can find Mexican oregano in little cellophane packages in any Mexican grocery store. Right next to the packages of espazote. <grin> Phil http://www.mindspring.com/~wpcody/chile/default.htm http://www.mindspring.com/~wpcody/tiedye/tiedye.htm When the situation is desperate, it is too late to be serious.
