[CH] "OffLine" chile ripening

Does anyone have any experience with picking green chiles and letting 
them ripe afterwards?

Is there any point at all doing it, tastewise?

Just wondering, 'cause all the chiles I can buy at this time of the 
year seem to be huge, green "spanish peppers" (don't ask me for a 
formal name...), and they are kinda boring.
