Both of these are HOT and only a smal amount is required to give whatever you are cooking a kick. They are both from Thailand, so if you can find a Thai store all the better. The vegan one is called Cheng Sim and it is 100% vegetarian chile paste, manufatured in Bangkok by Cal Industries and Marketing Co. Ltd 8 oz jar which keeps in fridge a long time $3.49 Cdn, much less, US $ The next one is a very hot Thai Shrimp paste...Pantainorasingh Brand which contains Chile, Soya bean oil, sugar, fish sauce, garlic, shallot, dried shrimp, tamarind paste, salt and sodium benzoate, and this one costs $1.99 Cdn for 3.5 oz jar, which will also keep in the fridge, if not forever, a very long time. These are both fabulous chile pastes, and on the label of the shrimp paste it tells everyone that this paste may be used as a sandwich spread, as it is cooked. DO THIS WITH EXTREME CARE and that is the voice of experience! Try and find these, when in a large US city with a high Asian population...if I can get them on Vancouver Island in a town of 70000 then they should be available.Cheers, Doug in BC
