You're correct, it is delicious stuff; I've never tried it on pasta, but have used it as a means of "kicking up" the heat content of soups and other things. It's also often served (at least it was when I was in Seoul) as a condiment on its own with bulgogi (Korean barbecued meat) or noodle dishes- just take a lump and mix it in your soup- yum! And it IS readily available in any self-respecting Asian grocery, but Rain's right- I don't think Safeway would have it.
