1997 was the first year I tried growing Poblano peppers and Serranos. I had a nice crop the first year. Last year I tried growing them again with only slight luck. I just found the book I wrote my notes in and I found that in 1997 the seeds germinated pretty quickly. The Super Serranos germinated in 8 days and the Poblanos germinated in 14 days. Last year I planted both kinds about the same time of year and neither germinated as quickly. Both years they were in my kitchen window in March. I live in NJ. It is pretty cold in March usually (today it is 65°F, weird??) and yet most of my seedlings come up pretty quickly. 2 weeks ago I planted some habanero, anaheim, jalapeno and a couple of other kinds of seeds. None have germinated yet. Yesterday I put them above the refrigerator. I am hoping this helps. Do you know why one year they germinate in the window quickly and then another year it takes forever? Is it the heat or lack of it coming through the window? The temperature indoors? Usually pretty warm in the kitchen - always cooking. RisaG
