I just got the June/July issue of Kitchen Gardener (used to be just Kitchen Garden Magazine) and they had a little thing written in the Tips section that I found interesting to the C-H around this world: "To keep cats from using your garden soil as a litter box, sprinkle cayenne liberally over the surface. Human noses aren't affected, but feline ones don't like it. Cayenne will have to be reapplied after a rain or if you have to water, but it's effective for two weeks or more if the weather is dry. Mail-order the cayenne or buy large plastic bags in the Hispanic food section to make this more cost effective." Personally, I just spray my hot pepper & garlic spray on my plants every day (or every other day) and I seem to keep most pests away. I also plant garlic cloves in between the more susceptible plants and that also helps keep the bugs and animals away. RisaG
