Yes and no. Yes- we suffer from some of the same critters but, no- the responsible use of bug spray stops most of them before they start. We also use barrier crops (like corn) but that poses its' own set of problems. My biggest problem last year was corn boreres attacking my jalapenos. We generally only have to survive the first part of the season anyway. If the bugs haven't found the grops by the middle of July or so, they are generally not going to find them in sufficient numbers to be much trouble. We also agressively rotate crops to avoid the whiteflies & keep the critters guessing from year to year. Whiteflies are probably the most pernicious of the bad guys. They are a key transmitter of several virus and are VERY hard to get rid of. My landlord has abandonded the field to them before. -Jim Campbell http://www.wildpepper.com
