Chef: I was in Denver for three days for a conference last year (downtown). These are my somewhat vague reminiscences: Denver does boast a branch of the Firehouse Cafe chain in Lower Downtown (LoDo), which I went to for lunch. The food is good and well flavored, although not nearly as hot as most hardcore chile-heads make for themselves, but then these people have the general public to consider. A putatively chile-headed acquaintance of mine went there and ordered the hottest thing on the menu (a lamb curry) , asking to have the heat jacked WAY up. They took him at his word and it came out steaming, with chunks of hab prominent in the sauce. He couldn't finish it- 1-0 for the kitchen! They have good souvenir shirts too. Beer: try the Wynkoop Brewery. Some nice draughts, although they didn't have a stout on when I was there (I consoled myself by investigating the single-malt list). The Denver Chop House, I believe, also brews on-premise, but we didn't get in because it was too crowded, so I can't swear to that. General restaurants- I had one of the finest dinners of my life at a place called the Beacon Grill. Don't remember the exact address, but it's at the edge of the pedestrian mall in LoDo, near the Adams Mark hotel. I had some of the best beef I've ever tasted, and they also have an excellent and wide-ranging wine list. Hope this helps...
