Hi gang, Today I picked 87 habs off of 4 plants! They are really doing well. My freezer went out a couple of weeks ago and the first thing I grabbed was my peppers (mostly long green chiles, some habs) and tomatoes I had just put up. They were thawed but not hot, so am sure they are OK. Half the stuff in it was old and needed to be tossed anyway. We have stuffed the remainder into 2 refrig. freezers until we decide what we are going to do, which is probably get a very small freezer. Anyway, I am now seeding and cutting the habs in half so they take up less room. I did 70 early this week and now I have all of these to do and the plants are still loaded! I also have 3 hab plants in pots which are just now starting to put on a large no. of pods. I may pickle some. Do they taste OK for jerk marinade and salsa when pickled in vinegar?? I also picked a bunch of jalapenos and made 2 pts. and a half pint of nacho slices. I came up with a novel idea for them with the first batch a couple of weeks ago. I don't like the real vinegary taste, and I had some Polish dill pickle mix from last year, so I mixed about 1 Tbs. in enough vinegar and water to do the 3 jars, about 40% vinegar, 60% water. They taste great! I now use them on sandwiches and it takes the place of dill pickles and jalapenos!
