As I near the end of another year ( oh yeah born on the FALL equinox , thats what keeps me so evenly balanced ) it comes to me how much Iv'e enjoyed the Chile-heads & how much I've learned from yall , so in appreciation this story about the last time the CHILE crop came in , On the western slope there are many small streams feeding the Colo. river , many of these small streams have been dammed in their upper valleys by ranchers who release water as they need it , throughout the summer , some of these small impoundment's are home to a rare combination of fresh water shrimp and BROOKTROUT , resulting in " MONSTER BROOKIES " with pink meat tastier than salmon , after gorging themselves on shrimp all summer these MONSTERS gather in the remaining pools ( which have shrunk immensely ) O.K. now listen up , you have to bait your hook behind a tree !! , herds of them have been known to come up on the road and attack cars !! O.K. last Sept. full moon , we got some of the neighborhoods permanent snow , packed it with local home brew , our stuff ( hundreds of pounds of stuff ) and some fresh CHILES , we drove to the "secret spot " and set up camp , ( not too close to the lake !! ) started a fire ( bone dry , bleached white , standing dead aspen ) when we got the coals just right we set up the welded rebar gismo that holds up the 16 inch castiron skillet , O.K. heres where it gets good , WAIT ! I gotta go mow my lawn , I'll tell you what happened later . BILL ..... Colorado's highest CHILE grower
