Don't think you can make this yourself unless you have access to sassafras leaves. But I have found a method to replace the file powder, and it's not to bad...comes close. Just use corn-flour or use any other neutral binder, and add some thyme powder for the taste.(not to much) The taste will be very close to file powder. Hope it's helps Hot regards Rob
