If you have a small area where you have a few plants, or you use raised
beds, prepare ahead of time for supporting the plants.

I use round pole stakes, 2 to 3 inches in diameter, since this is
sandy soil, I get them 4 feet long so I can sink them in the ground
about 18 inches.
I then buy concrete reinforcing wire (grid) which is fairly stiff and
after planting the peppers, I fasten the grid to the top of the posts
with fence staples - horizontal - and the plants can grow up through
the wire grid and even when they are loaded with fruit the grid
supports the plants and the fruit. I also grow tomatos and eggplant
this way. We get a lot of wind here, almost every day and without this
protection all my plants would be laying flat on the ground.
