Just a short report -- gotta finish putting in a garden path and then it's off for oysters and a club to hear Ray Wylie Hubbard do his singing thing. The Austin Hotluck was last week and the party was great (but I'm sad to say the Chilehead listmember turnout was small). Thanks for coming to Yvonne and Tom Bryant -- who brought along most his family to more than fortify the ranks! (BTW -- he's got great family, especially his granddaughters.) Fortunately we had non-list chileheads and chilehead wannabes to add to the crowd. Things started around three and mostly got rolling around four with splendid weather for sitting out under the carport around the keg or wandering through the garden. Yvonne's chile was the first to go and she got deserved compliments for the tenderness of her meat and the fine flavor. Seeing as we had chileheads and non, I bbq'ed a pork roast on the smoker and served it up with a sauce made from hot green chiles brought back from Hatch last fall. I also fixed up one of the Colonel's Thai dipping sauces -- lousy on chips but a wonder for meat; a basic salsa fresca, hummus, homemade bread and chipotle salsa. Tom provided an excellent Singapore chile that had to be pulled out of the fridge after he left 'cause people were asking for the leftovers. He said it got it from the list sometime back, but if you ask him nice he just might post it again for us. The Hot Sauce Bar was well stocked, thanks to the generosity of Jim the Elder (Mild to Wild), Firegirl (Pycho Bitch Hot sauces!) and Calvin (with the infamous Calvin's powder). Folks had fun trying what they hadn't seen before. For dessert, my wife made her "traditional" habanero-lime cheesecake. Being as she's my wife I cannot praise it enough, but it's a good thing she only makes it occasionally or I'd be an even bigger chilehead than I already am! Things got done well after dark and we almost floated the keg. Damn but we tried. David Cook PS. Mark your calendar for next year!
