David- as a former upstate NYer (Ithaca area) I can vouch for a few things you may be interested in; -there is a spicy foods festival of sorts in the Albany area that I've heard of, but never been to. My sister (Oneonta) is keeping tabs on that one for me so I'll post anything I hear. -Chip Welsh has a hotluck around harvest time that is near York, PA. You should be able to get there in about 3 hours from Binghampton area. -Andy Barnhart and his son Doug put on a hotluck last year in Bucks County, PA that would also be w/in 3 hours of Binghampton that wasn't all that well attended, but perhaps will be better this year. -JP- -----Original Message----- From: owner-chile-heads@globalgarden.com [SMTP:owner-chile-heads@globalgarden.com] On Behalf Of David and Kathy Melchior Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 1980 5:36 AM To: Chile-Heads List Subject: [CH] hot festivals Hi all. I am new to the list, and only in the last year or so have I come to realize that I was a Chile-head (when I was sipping medium-to-hot sauces from the bottle) and then finding all you guys on-line was great! But now that I know that there is a great big community out there of people like me (at least regarding spice) I want to experience some get togethers. Does anyone know how I would go about finding hotlucks or fiery festivals in up-state New York (or even northern Pennsylvania)? I tried searching everywhere I could think of, and lists are either non-existent or a few years old. Thanks. P.S. my Cayenne seedlings are coming up nicely. I'll be putting them in the ground this Sunday and I can't wait. I haven't grown Cayennes before. Last year I did habs, japs, and Hungarian wax peppers, all of which made some excellent sauces, but I don't think I'll be having any need for hab sauces for awhile ... they were a bit much! -David Melchior dmelchio@stny.rr.com www.geocities.com/melchior4/
